something was nagging me today at "church" mount Carmel.
I have hard a little on it How Yeshua said I AM a couple of times and that this wasn't done by Jews.
I have gone through my hard copy bibles english and hebrew and strong's etc but am struggling with this. there doesn't seem to be a good translation to work from.
A can anyone recommend one.
B has anyone else heard of the difference between what the jews would use, Hineini and I am eigo eimi in greek.
I was hoping to develop a sermon on this as I have a speaking engagement coming up.
Thanks Guys and shabbat shalom

If you have scriptural reference, I'll check and see how the AENT translates it.

John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

I guess it all boils down to whether or not you trust the Greek. I have not yet seen a reason to ditch the Greek, myself, but for the record, the Aramaic Bible in Plain English (2010) says:

John 8:58 Yeshua said to them: “Timeless truth I speak to you: Before Abraham would exist, I AM THE LIVING GOD.”

Looks to be about the same to me...

In another place, Yahshua walked on water and called out to Peter saying about the same thing, translated, "It is I!" Same phraseology in Greek....

Thanks Guys,
I was looking at from Judges 13:11 and John 8 along with John 18 :5
I have been told, but cant remember where that Jewish people never say I am but rather phrase it differently as to say it directly is i n line with saying Gods name or similar.

AENT

v.58 "before Abraham existed, I was"

Footnote: see v. 13 "I told you that you will die in your sins unless you believe that I am. [En-na, conveys the idea of eternal existence reserved for only Elohim. Which naturally lead to their question in v. 14 [the Jews asked, "Who are you?"].

Hey yourself. I'm finally getting settled here and once again have some time for doing more than just reading.
